The Mayava Story

Surrounded by tropical greenery, Mayava Villa blends local craftsmanship, simple elegance, and a sense of calm. Whether you’re lounging by the natural stone pool, taking in the ocean views from the rooftop, or just enjoying the quiet, Mayava Villa offers a space to slow down and feel at home.

We discovered the house in January 2023—a colonial-era home left abandoned for nearly a year. Overgrown gardens and weathered wood told a story of stillness, yet beneath the neglect, there was quiet elegance waiting to be revived.

After finalising all legal matters, we began work in July 2023. The first step was clearing the land—removing dense bushes, levelling the ground, and dismantling old water tank columns. A boundary wall was built, ensuring privacy while preserving the connection to nature.

Renovation started with the old kitchen, which we transformed into a one-bedroom bungalow—our own retreat. Once we moved in, work on the main house began. The leaking roof, damaged beyond repair, had to be completely rebuilt. To enhance comfort and functionality, we restructured walls, added ensuite bathrooms, and introduced arches and open spaces to create a welcoming shared area.

Throughout the restoration, we carefully blended old and new. Original sideboards, in-wall cupboards, and rattan chairs were restored, paired with handcrafted cane mirrors, antique-style furnishings, and locally sourced materials, honoring Sri Lanka’s craftsmanship.

On a natural hill within the property, we built a round wellness platform with an iluk roof and spider-net iron, now used for yoga, massage treatments, and small gatherings, surrounded by lush greenery and a small temple with original statues.

Today, Mayava Villa is a reimagined sanctuary—where history meets quiet sophistication. Four uniquely designed rooms, a lush tropical garden, and a Sukabumi stone pool invite guests to unwind. The spacious rooftop lounge offers sea views and a soft coastal breeze, the perfect spot to pause.

A once-forgotten house has been brought back to life—not through reinvention alone, but through patience, craftsmanship, and respect for its story. Mayava Villa is more than just a boutique stay—it is a home with a soul, waiting to be experienced.
